My paintings come from a distrust of the solitary artist myth. I aim to create connections between works themselves, and between my activities and the rest of the world. I do this through an active, thin and unprecious handling of paint. My use of layers is counterintuitive because it draws attention to the painted surface and to my mistakes, giving my paintings their own form of agency.
My work is a reaction to the systems that preserve power in art galleries; the idea that an individual or solitary genius produces a masterpiece which is disconnected from society. For example, the treatment of outsider art as pure in virtue of its disarticulation of society.
I see being a painter as being part of society. I see composing on a canvas is like arranging society. I insist on my paintings being seen as a constellation, part of the network of artists around me.

I am an artist born in London. I studied at the Royal Drawing School (2018-19) under Sophie Charalambous, I then was taught by Graham Lister at The Glasgow School of Art (2019-22), took part in the Conditions Studio Programme (2023-24), headed by Matthew Noel-Tod and David Panos and this year I have been tutored by Neal Tait at Turps Studio Programme. Since leaving Turps, I have been awarded the Clyde Hopkins Mentoring award with APT studios, under the tuition of David Webb.
