I make paintings in a rectilinear language. In this square world, marionette characters are placed in situations that explore labour, play, and Thatcher’s legacy in London.

I am interested in making a contemporary painting using the simplest forms available. I am driven by Amy Sillman’s writing On Awkwardness and on the contemporary relevance of Russian revolutionary art from Filonov (1883) who dreamt beautiful woven networks of people and buildings to the Kabakovs (1989) who gestured towards confinement and gathering together under surveillance in their models and paintings. I am also interested in the parallels between London today, the Weimar republic and also Russia in the 1920s.

I am an artist born in London. I studied at the Royal Drawing School (2018-19) under Sophie Charalambous, I then was taught by Graham Lister at The Glasgow School of Art (2019-22), took part in the Conditions Studio Programme (2023-24), headed by Matthew Noel-Tod and David Panos and this year I have been tutored by Neal Tait at Turps Studio Programme.
